Why Daily Oral Care Matters
Dental problems are among the most common issues vets see in dogs and cats. Here is what published research says about everyday care at home.
In a randomised, blinded study in dogs, cleaning teeth daily or every other day slowed plaque and tartar build-up significantly better than weekly or every-other-week care. The authors recommend daily care.
Harvey et al., Journal of Veterinary Dentistry, 2015
A review of the research found that when dogs are examined under anaesthesia, 44–100% show signs of periodontal disease. Poor home oral care is a significant risk factor, and small and older dogs are most at risk.
Wallis & Holcombe, Journal of Small Animal Practice, 2020
In a study of 3,584 cats seen at UK veterinary practices, periodontal disease was the single most common diagnosis, recorded in 13.9% of cats.
O’Neill et al., The Veterinary Journal, 2014
The American Animal Hospital Association’s dental guidelines stress preventive oral care at home, between professional cleanings, as a key part of keeping dogs and cats healthy.
AAHA Dental Care Guidelines for Dogs and Cats, 2019
Summaries describe published research on the ingredients, not studies of AeroPaws® products. AeroPaws® supports everyday care and does not replace veterinary advice.
